Kit & Safety
Respect the moor
Holcombe Moor is open, exposed ground and the weather can turn inside an hour. The advice below is how we would prepare; the binding mandatory kit list is confirmed in the race guide.
Advisory kit
Footwear
Fell or aggressive trail shoes. Both runs are genuine off-road
moorland — road shoes will not grip on wet ground or the descent.
Bike
A road bike in sound mechanical order. The circuit is entirely on
open public road.
Helmet
A correctly fitted helmet meeting current safety standards, worn and
fastened before you touch the bike in transition.
Layers
A windproof or waterproof top is sensible in late September, and may
be made compulsory on the day if conditions demand it.
Nutrition
Carry what you need. Feed provision will be confirmed in the race
guide; do not assume a station where you want one.
Numbers
Race number visible at all times, and a rear-facing number on the
bike leg. Timing chips issued at registration.
On the road
The bike leg uses open public roads. The Highway Code applies at all times and the course is not closed to traffic. Drafting rules, headphone restrictions and penalties will be set out in the race guide and at the mandatory briefing.
If something goes wrong
- Stop and help anyone in difficulty — before your own race, always.
- Retiring? Tell the nearest marshal or return to HQ and hand in your chip, so nobody is searching the moor for you.
- Marshal locations, medical provision and the race-day emergency number will be published in the race guide and shown at registration.
Weather and the course
We will run in rain and wind. If conditions make the moor genuinely unsafe we may shorten, reroute or, as a last resort, cancel — any change will appear in the status banner on this site first, then by email to entrants.
