FAQs
Questions, answered plainly
When and where is the race?
Sunday 27 September 2026, from the Hare & Hounds, 400 Bolton Road West, Ramsbottom, Bury BL0 9RY. The runs cross Holcombe Moor; the bike leg uses the classic Mountain Trial road circuit.
What is the format?
Run–bike–run: a 6.3km fell run, a 27km road cycle, then a second 6.3km fell run finishing with the climb to Peel Tower.
Can I enter as a team?
Yes — two-person relays are part of this race's identity. One team member takes both runs, the other rides the bike leg. The outright course record belongs to a relay team.
When do entries open, and what will it cost?
Entry fee, field limit and opening date are being finalised and will be announced to the priority list first. Nothing is published here until it is confirmed.
Is there a finisher reward?
Every finisher receives the exclusive Holcombe finisher tee, free, in the size chosen at entry. It is never sold — finishing is the only way to get one.
What shoes and bike do I need?
The runs are true fell running — fell or aggressive trail shoes are strongly advised. The bike leg is entirely on road; a road bike is the normal choice. Full kit requirements will be published in the race guide.
Has this race been run before?
Five times, 2015–2019, organised by Holcombe Harriers. The history page tells the story; the record book holds every verified result.
How hard is it, honestly?
Winning times sit around two hours; the field has historically spread to beyond three. The climbs are steep and the moor is exposed — but the distances are approachable for a first-timer who respects the terrain and prepares for the fells.
